1. Are you having photos taken?!
If you answered, well of course YES! Then my recommendation is to spend some time talking with your photographer before the surprise proposal so you can both be on the same page. Just like these two did!
Funny story: Thomas (who are in these pictures) was ready to pop the question and the plan seemed simple enough. But when the time came, I hid a little TOO well and the staff of Leoness Cellars Winery were panicking because they couldn’t find me and feared that I didn’t show up. They were stalling for time while I was hiding ready and waiting in a supply closet with the perfect shot of the big moment. I finally realized that they were stalling and I made my presence known to the staff. They were so relieved & we had a good laugh about it. Finally, it was time and I started army crawling in the bushes before he actually popped the question. And then just like that Thomas dropped down on his knee & popped the question!! This surprise proposal was totally epic! Just how it should be!
2. Delegate!
You are going to be busy and in the moment! You should definitely plan on having someone else text the photographer or venue or whoever on your behalf. This is going to make things so so SO much easier!! This allows you to be more in the moment and not stressed about arranging everything to perfection.
3. Think About The Sun!!
I am all for spontaneity but if you are planning to capture the surprise proposal moment, I really recommend checking out your location ahead of time and around the same time that you plan on being there. This will allow you to be able to find the BEST spot to pop the question. You can’t ever get that moment back & if you want the photos to be as dreamy as you would like then talk with your photographer. Your photographer will be able to suggest and recommend where you should stand to get the most perfect pictures!
