Okay, let’s get real for a second, photoshoots can be a little overwhelming conceptually. There is this person you’ve never met all up in your business, shoving a camera in your face and you are supposed to act totally normal and like you deal with this on the reg. HAHA unless you’re Kim Kardashian, this probably isn’t a regular occurrence for you so let’s go over some things that will totally up your game & how to slay your next photoshoot.

FOCUS ON WHY YOU’RE DOING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!

It is so easy to get distracted, fixate on all the small things and lose sight of why you booked the photoshoot in the first place! Whether its an engagement shoot or a family session, the fact of the matter is that you are there to capture that love & happiness and all the little things won’t matter in a few years. Take a deep breath. Relax, Just focus on your loved one and enjoy the moment.

INVEST IN THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU

Think about it – there are tons of different types of photographers out there & they all have their own style and preferences. You need to find the one for you and the one that you feel like you can trust. If dancing in the middle of nowhere, playing silly games, and tickle fights don’t sound like your style then maybe look for a photographer who is more focused on poses rather than movement. But if pictures of that windblown hair and belly laughter is what you are after, then a prompt & movement focused photographer is going to be your best bet.

DO WHATEVER MAKES YOU FEEL THE MOST BEAUTIFUL

You know you better than anyone, so I could tell you all about the power of hiring a professional makeup artist and even though I do think hiring someone to get you all dolled up is absolutely a fantastic idea. For some – that just might not be what makes them feel most beautiful & comfortable. So you should do whatever is going to make you feel the most beautiful. If that’s going lighter on the makeup? Do it! If that’s hiring a pro? Go for it girlfriend!

PICK A COLOR SCHEME

The trick is to avoid super matchy-matchy. Think of a paint swatch that has multiple different hues on it. Now add some complimentary colors and botta-boom batta-bing, you got a color scheme! Another big thing to keep in mind is that neutrals are your friend! Typically color schemes that I recommend:

Navy Blue – Cream/Ivory – Grey – Black
Olive Green – White – Black – Brown (think Congac leather shoes)
Maroon – White – Black – Blue Denim

These color schemes help to keep the focus on you. Super flashy clothes can take away from what the focus really is, (which we already covered earlier) is your love!
